Our Story

Wolf Equestrian has a strong family tie to the horse industry starting with Diane Erickson’s passion for the sport in the mid 1960’s. Taking a feather from her mother’s hat, Rachel Wolf, followed Diane's path, sharing her passion for the equestrian industry, we have built (and are still growing) Wolf Equestrian LLC. Rachel started her riding career at Fortuna Farms in 1995 with Max Von Blücher. Gaining strong fundamentals in Classical Dressage and Jumping. Wolf Equestrian’s program is focused on maintaining those same fundamentals in all rings (Dressage, Eventing and Hunter/Jumper). .

Rachel's educational background started at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities in the Animal Science Department, Pre-Veterinary Medicine, Emphasis in Equine Reproduction, with credited hours from Argosy's CVT program focusing on large animal medicine. Rachel has done fellowship hours for school in both large and small animal clinics in MN, as well as a working student position at the UMN-TC in their RAR Research barns. At the UMN-TC she was an IHSA Team Board Member and rode for 2 years on the UMN-TC IHSA Equestrian Team and became the first Hunter Team rider to attend IHSA Nationals and was the 2008 Cacchione Cup rider for her region. Coming in at 17th nationally. Rachel was on the ground floor of the team of students who developed the UMN-TC's IHSA team and helped curate it into becoming the team that it is today. Rachel has also earned her Gold Medal with the USDF

From a young age Rachel had a keen eye for entrepreneurial endeavors and started her own business, Erickson Horse Care and Farrier Service (EHCFS) was her first start-up in the equestrian industry. The business started as an animal husbandry endeavor where we had services for tack/equipment care, horse care and show grooming. EHCFS quickly transformed into a full independent contract equine business with services such as; horse show staff, grooming and barn management service. In 2006, after graduating from the Minnesota School of Horseshoeing, Rachel began providing farrier services. And upon graduating High School she began working as a full time traveling show groom for Eventing, Dressage and Hunter/Jumper Professionals. The road has taken Rachel to many locations including; MN's surrounding circuits, the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, the full Mid-States circuit and also to Florida for both Ocala HITS and Wellington's WEF circuits. Rachel's duties as a show groom included but were not limited to; cross-country equine transport (experience with small rigs and large), full horse management, preparing show barns, Braiding/grooming/tacking horses, class schedule management, vet-checks, exercise riding, etc. This small business is what Wolf Equestrian has evolved from to become what it is today.

As an Army wife, Rachel had the pleasure of embarking on many great adventures with her husband, Joseph Wolf. Their first duty station was Vilseck, Germany. Germany was a launching pad for furthering Rachel's equestrian education. Taking full advantage of the european opportunity, Rachel worked under many wonderful trainers as a working student and gained her competition license through M Class with Cést La Vie 106 (2002 Hanoverian Mare, Cheenook x Ravel). Two influential trainers to mention are; Rico Lorengel, riding and training under Rico afforded her many opportunities to view the international equestrian world from behind the scenes. While riding with Rico, Rachel's duties included but were not limited to; horse show grooming, exercise riding, preparing horses for breeding inspections (mostly for the Holsteiner Pferdes e.V. Dachverband) and sales. Prior to working with Rico, Rachel had also ridden under Hans-Jörg Radandt from Trainingsstall Radandt GbR. Hans-Jörg breeds and trains Arabian Sport horses and Warmblood horses for Dressage and Show Jumping. As a working student she focused on facility management, breeding/training assistance, Etc. During the breeding season, she would assist Hans-Jörg with live cover bred parings with both young inexperienced stallions and mature stallions. Assisted in all veterinary appointments and gestational monitoring of the mares. Riding 8-12 horses daily, giving riding lessons and preparing young horses for their breeding inspections. The farm hosts many events each year and one breeding inspection by the Zuchtverband für Sportpferde arabischer Abstammung e.V., she assisted in preparing horses for inspection and setting up the arenas. Rachel and Joe lived in Germany for 3 years and could not be more thankful for the experience. After a 4 year adventure stationed at Fort Knox, KY, where Wolf Equestrian was located near Louisville, KY. It was a blessing to have Masterson Station Park and the Kentucky Horse Park at our finger tips, we are so excited to embark on our next chapter back in MN.

Rachel's tertiary studies have provided her with in depth theoretical knowledge into equine husbandry and health, as well as the technical hands on experience in regards to equine handling, restraint, pathology and undertaking best standards of care in surgical & hospital nursing. Throughout her life, Rachel has worked in a number of industry related roles such as: a veterinary working student, animal attendant and care technician, barn management, in retail and customer service positions as a trainer and manager. With a passion for working with horses and people and holding a strong emphasis on the caring and ethical treatment of all animals in order to improve the human-animal bond. The natural progression for her career is to complete USA certification courses. Certification courses in progress with the USEF, USHJA and USDF. As a young professional she is focused on teaching you and your horse the fundamentals in dressage and jumping to create a strong working relationship that is built on trust and respect! It is important to our whole team that the horses and riders alike are having fun and feel safe with each other. Please ride along with us on our journey!
